On a Mac you can use the built in Photo Booth app. If you have another webcam installed, click on the Camera icon towards the top right of the screen, to switch between your connected webcams. On a PC you can open the built in Camera app to check it’s working. Open any software that can use a webcam and select either the Insta360 One R or Insta360 One X2. Unlike with GoPro’s built-in webcam mode, there’s no software you need to install to use your camera as a webcam – it’s a standard UVC webcam just like the Logitech C920 or most other dedicated USB webcams. You don’t need a battery installed to use the webcam feature. The LED on the front of both the One X2 and One R turn green. The camera turns on and then restarts in Webcam mode. Now connect your PC or Mac to your camera with the supplied USB-C to USB-A cable and then turn the camera on. Connect to PC or Mac with supplied USB cable On the One X2, there’s no option to disable the Webcam Zoom currently. On the One X2 turn the camera on and swipe down from the top of the screen then acr oss to the left and tap on the Settings cog. With the 360 degree mod, swipe down then across to the left and again tap on the Settings cog | General | USB Mode | Webcam. I’ll show what it does shortly, but in most cases I’d leave this off. This is off by default in the latest firmware, but this is where you can turn it on. Go back to the previous screen and tap on Webcam Zoom. On the One R with the 4K mod, turn the camera on and swipe down and then left twice and tap on the Settings cog. Make sure you download the latest firmware if you want to use webcam mode – connect wirelessly via the Insta360 app and you should be prompted if there’s an update. All you need is the supplied USB charging cable but don’t connect it just yet.
Update firmware firstīoth cameras deliver full HD 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution when used as a webcam. The Leica 1” mod is not currently supported, most likely because its minimum focussing distance would make it unusable in most situations. The older One X and the new GO 2 don’t have a webcam mode, and the One R only supports webcam mode with the 4K and 360 degree mod. Currently, you’ll need an Insta360 One X2 or One R. Not all Insta360 cameras support the webcam mode.
Setup & test footage 1″ Lens Mod doesn’t support webcam mode I’ll discuss how to set up the webcam mode which works on a PC or Mac, and I’ll compare the quality to the GoPro Hero 9, the popular Logitech C920, a MacBook Pro and a Panasonic mirrorless camera with a USB capture card. I’ve looked at using a GoPro as a webcam in a couple of recent videos, but if you have a Insta360 One R or One X2 they can also be used as pretty handy webcams, and with a couple of additional features GoPro’s don’t have.
